We're looking for an enthusiastic Cafe Retail Assistant to join our team at Whanganui Hospital on a casual basis. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll bring energy, great service, and quality food and beverages to hospital staff, patients, and visitors.


Working in a busy café environment, no two days are the same. You'll prepare and serve fresh food, craft quality espresso coffee, operate the till, and help create a welcoming experience for everyone who visits the café.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking flexibility, with shifts offered as required to meet business needs and no guaranteed hours.


You'll also have the opportunity to earn additional penal rates when working weekend shifts.


Ko o kawenga | Your responsibilities


  • Deliver friendly, professional, and engaging customer service
  • Prepare and serve food, beverages, and quality espresso coffee
  • Operate point-of-sale systems and process transactions accurately
  • Maintain high presentation, cleanliness, and hygiene standards
  • Assist with stock replenishment and day-to-day café operations
  • Follow all food safety, health & safety, and operational procedures


He kōrero mōu | About you


  • Experience in hospitality, retail, café, or customer service environments
  • Previous barista experience and confidence making espresso coffee
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and help wherever needed
  • A strong commitment to food safety, hygiene, and quality standards
