Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity


We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Trades Assistant to join our Tauranga Water team. Working alongside experienced mechanical technicians, you'll assist with routine maintenance and fault response activities across the water distribution networks for Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council. Your work will include general trades assistance, manual labour, confined space activities, reinstatement works, customer interactions, and field data recording.


This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys outdoor work, working as part of a team, and taking pride in delivering quality outcomes. You'll play an important role in helping provide reliable water services to local communities while maintaining Downer's high standards of safety and workmanship.

We're seeking a motivated, safety-focused individual who enjoys practical work and is committed to delivering great results.


You'll bring:


• Full Class 1 Driver Licence

• Confined Space and Hazard Awareness training preferred

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Strong problem-solving skills and practical aptitude

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Confidence using mobile devices for field reporting and data entry

• Experience interacting with customers and the public

• A proactive, reliable, and self-motivated approach

• Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards

• Flexibility to support fault response and operational requirements when needed.


Previous experience in water, infrastructure, maintenance, civil construction, or a trades environment will be advantageous but is not essential.
