At PwC New Zealand, you’ll work with a diverse portfolio of leading businesses across consumer markets, industrial products and services, gaining exposure to the industries and organisations that help shape Aotearoa’s economy.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful audit engagements, build lasting client relationships and develop talented people around you. Supported by a connected team and PwC’s global network, you’ll have the opportunity to broaden your experience, influence outcomes and help shape the future of audit.

Ngā kōrero mo tēnei tūranga / About the role

We’re looking for an experienced External Audit Manager to join our Assurance team in Ōtautahi / Christchurch. Based in our modern offices overlooking the Avon River, you’ll enjoy the energy of a thriving central city, with Canterbury’s incredible landscapes and lifestyle right on your doorstep.

In this role, you’ll lead a varied portfolio of audit engagements across the consumer, industrial, products and services sectors, working with established New Zealand businesses and internationally connected organisations. You’ll have the autonomy to lead engagements, the opportunity to build meaningful client partnerships and the support of a team that values collaboration, fresh thinking and continuous development.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.

Your day-to-day could include:

  • Take ownership of external audit engagements from planning through to completion, delivering high-quality outcomes while managing client expectations and engagement teams
  • Develop trusted relationships with clients across a broad range of industries, gaining insight into their businesses, understanding emerging risks and bringing fresh perspectives to financial reporting
  • Lead, coach and inspire junior team members and graduates, creating an environment where people feel supported, challenged and empowered to grow
  • Apply your technical expertise and professional judgement to complex audit matters, financial reporting, internal controls and engagement quality
  • Champion smarter ways of working by embracing innovative technology, digital audit tools and new approaches that enhance quality and efficiency

  • A recognised professional accounting qualification, or active progress towards one, such as CAANZ, CPA, ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent
  • Strong technical knowledge of internationally recognised financial reporting standards, particularly IFRS, and a commitment to audit quality
