About the Role

Unite Recruit is looking for reliable, safety-conscious and teachable workers with previous civil construction experience to join our Traffic Management team across the Wellington region.

This role is suited to people who understand construction site environments, can follow instructions and take safety seriously.

You do not need previous Traffic Control experience, but you must be willing to learn, accept feedback, complete training and demonstrate competency before undertaking duties that require it.


  • What You'll Be Doing Assisting with traffic management at civil construction and roadwork sites.
  • Setting up, maintaining and removing traffic management equipment as instructed.
  • Directing traffic and pedestrians when trained and authorised to do so.
  • Following Traffic Management Plans, site instructions and safety procedures.
  • Communicating clearly with supervisors, site crews and other traffic management workers.
  • Identifying hazards and responding appropriately to changing site conditions.
  • Helping maintain safe access for workers, vehicles, pedestrians and the public.
  • Attending site briefings and toolbox meetings.
  • Completing required training and demonstrating competency.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • What You'll Receive $24.50–$26.50 per hour, depending on experience.

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience working in civil construction or on civil worksites.
  • A positive attitude towards training, feedback and learning new skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures consistently.
  • Clear communication skills for safety-critical work.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Commitment to Health & Safety.
  • Ability to meet relevant pre-employment screening requirements.

Advantageous but not essential:

  • Previous Traffic Control or Traffic Management experience.
  • Relevant Traffic Management training or qualifications.
  • Site Safe certification.
  • Current NZ driver's licence.
  • Experience working around live traffic, roadworks or heavy machinery.

Important: Training & Attitude

Traffic Management is safety-critical work. It requires concentration, clear communication and the ability to follow instructions because mistakes can put workers and the public at risk.
