Job Description

The Company

My client is an established and growing New Zealand business with a diverse operational footprint and a complex group structure. With multiple entities and evolving business requirements, the organisation places a strong emphasis on accurate financial reporting, effective cash management and continuous improvement across its finance function.

Based in Christchurch, this is an opportunity to join a commercially focused business where you will work closely with senior leadership, contribute to the development of financial processes and play an important role in supporting the wider group's performance.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller and Managing Directors, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for financial accounting across multiple entities within the group, alongside supporting cashflow management, improving financial processes and overseeing the work of the transactional finance team.

This is a broad, hands-on role offering exposure to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to influence how the finance function operates. You'll combine strong technical accounting with team coordination, systems improvement and a practical approach to making processes more efficient.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing month-end accounting across multiple entities, including financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and investigation of variances
  • Preparing financial information and management reports to support business decisions
  • Assisting with cashflow forecasting, monitoring liquidity and identifying potential funding requirements
  • Ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with relevant tax and statutory obligations
  • Managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations across the group
  • Supporting accounting requirements for various entities and ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner
  • Overseeing the transactional finance team's output, helping maintain accuracy, consistency and adherence to deadlines
  • Reviewing existing accounting processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen financial controls
  • Exploring and implementing technology, automation and AI tools to reduce manual work and enhance reporting accuracy
  • Working closely with senior leadership and internal stakeholders to provide financial information and resolve queries
  • Supporting the ongoing development of financial systems and processes across the business
  • Assisting with ad hoc financial projects and wider business initiatives as required

This role will suit someone who enjoys variety and ownership, can manage complexity across multiple entities and wants to make a tangible contribution to the effectiveness of a growing finance function.

Your Profile

To be considered for this role, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting and be CA/CPA qualified or working towards your qualification. Experience in a multi-entity environment will be particularly valuable, along with the confidence to take ownership of financial processes and coordinate the work of others.

You will ideally bring:

  • A genuine interest in technology, automation and AI, with the initiative to explore how these tools can streamline workflows, reduce manual processing and improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations.
  • Experience working across multiple entities, including intercompany transactions and group accounting
  • An understanding of cashflow forecasting and broader financial management
  • Strong technical accounting capability, with experience across month-end reporting, reconciliations and financial compliance
  • A proactive, improvement-focused mindset, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to work smarter.
  • Confidence coordinating or overseeing transactional finance activities, with the ability to maintain quality and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders, external stakeholders and finance colleagues
  • This opportunity would suit an accountant looking to broaden their responsibilities beyond traditional financial accounting, with exposure to group-level finance, team oversight and the opportunity to drive meaningful process improvements.
