Job Description

Are you a deal-maker with an eye for property and a talent for closing complex commercial transactions? This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a leading New Zealand retail network.

The Role

As our Network Development & Divestments Lead, you will be responsible for driving the end-to-end sale and transition of company-owned stores into sustainable dealership or franchise models. Based in a desirable Auckland city-fringe location, this is a high-impact commercial role at the heart of our retail and capital strategy.

You will own the full transaction process, from identifying and qualifying prospective buyers through to negotiation, due diligence and settlement, while assessing the commercial and property fundamentals of each site to ensure smooth transitions for customers, employees and brand partners. As this position has national coverage, some travel across NZ will be required from time to time. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, transactional environment and knows how to get deals across the line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead store transaction execution: developing and implementing a structured, data-driven roadmap and ensuring all transactions comply with governance, legal and risk requirements
  • Drive buyer identification and lead generation: proactively sourcing, qualifying and managing a strong pipeline of prospective buyers through outreach, sales meetings and opportunity pitches
  • Assess site and property fundamentals: evaluating lease terms, tenure, location and site viability as part of buyer qualification and due diligence
  • Deal management and negotiation: leading commercial negotiations, coordinating due diligence and managing complete deal cycles from first contact through to settlement
  • Cross-functional collaboration: partnering with Legal, Finance, Operations and People teams to support seamless store transitions
  • Stakeholder reporting and risk management: providing regular updates and risk analyses to senior leadership and maintaining accurate transaction documentation

To Be Successful You Must Have

  • A proven background in business sales, commercial property, or M&A-related transactions
  • Demonstrated experience in lead generation, buyer engagement and closing high-value deals
  • A practical understanding of what makes a site or property commercially viable — lease structures, tenure, location and site fundamentals
  • Strong commercial judgment and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder transactions
  • Financial literacy and analytical capability to assess deal viability and support sound commercial decision-making
  • Excellent relationship management skills and confidence to engage at senior levels with buyers, brokers, advisors and internal stakeholders
  • High attention to detail, with a disciplined approach to documentation, governance and audit trails
  • Resilience and adaptability — you must be comfortable with ambiguity and can keep multiple deals moving simultaneously

Highly Advantageous:

  • Experience in commercial or industrial property/real estate sales, or as a recruitment consultant on a property desk looking to move client-side into the property industry
  • Experience in retail, franchising, or multi-site business models
  • A degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, or a related field

In Return We Can Offer

  • Competitive remuneration package of up to $125,000pa, dependent on experience, with regular performance reviews
  • Stability and genuine career growth opportunities within a well-established national organisation
  • A dynamic, inclusive team environment with strong support from an experienced leader
  • Excellent company benefits and staff perks
  • Annual paid volunteer leave so you can give back to a cause you care about
