Job Description

Experienced Drainlayer

Tradestaff is looking for an experienced Drainlayer to join the team in Tauranga. We need someone with strong practical drainage knowledge who can deliver accurate, compliant work and confidently handle the technical side of the job.


Location: Tauranga

Start date: Immediate start

Pay rate: $35–$42 per hour + weekly pay


  • What You'll Be DoingInstall stormwater and wastewater drainage systems across civil projects
  • Set accurate pipe levels, grades, and falls using lasers and levelling equipment
  • Lay and connect PVC, concrete, and other drainage pipe systems
  • Install manholes, catchpits, cesspits, connections, and tie-ins
  • Prepare trenches, bed pipework, and complete backfilling and compaction
  • Read drainage plans, site drawings, and specifications to complete work accurately
  • Identify existing underground services and maintain safe, compliant excavations
  • What We're Looking ForProven hands-on drainlaying experience within civil or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of stormwater and wastewater drainage systems
  • Confident setting levels and falls and completing drainage work without constant supervision
  • Experience installing manholes, catchpits, pipework, and drainage connections
  • Good understanding of trench safety and working around underground services
  • Full NZ driver licence preferred, with Class 2 and WTR advantageous
  • NZ Drainlaying qualification or registration and relevant civil tickets are highly regarded
