About the role


Reporting to the Chief Operating & Strategy Manager, this key role is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of a defined region (lower North and South Island) and provides commercially focused leadership to agreed business and financial objectives. This is a hands-on people leadership position which upholds quality standards and fosters a positive organisational culture to ensure we deliver extraordinary living experiences to our residents. The position can be based in either Wellington or Christchurch.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing the Premium Aged Care Strategy at a Metlifecare cluster of villages
  • Ensuring Metlifecare villages and care homes operate profitably, efficiently and effectively whilst meeting all resident and regulatory obligations.
  • Drive development, coaching and retention of a high performing team to meet key business objectives.
  • Responsible for leading the operationalisation related business initiatives into the cluster e.g., process improvements, customer experience enhancements, embedding brand and value relaunch, ESG related activities etc
  • Ensure health, safety and wellbeing of self and others within the workplace
  • Act as the Voice of the customer/Voice of Operations in projects/programmes requiring operational input
  • Driving NPS improvements plans across both Employees and Residents
  • Managing change impacts particularly as it relates to residents e.g. (introduction of new services, development related works etc
  • Building strong and collaborative relationships across key stakeholder groups including clinical, sales, development to maximise business/financial objectives


About you


As a key role in the business, previous, operational experience within a large organisation is essential as you will be driving your regions success and dealing with challenges and obstacles, trouble shooting and bringing in the right internal/externals stakeholders to the table. This is a hands-on role and key competencies we will be looking for are as follows:


  • Strong operational management role in a "people" business with a high preference for experience in the retirement and aged care Industry, health or within building and construction
  • Versatile leadership skills and exposure with a wealth of experience working with a range of different teams, customers, and partners.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to manage financial performance e.g. P&L, cost centre ownership
  • The ability to seek customer feedback and maximize customer satisfaction through Insights and strategic planning that contributes to the big Metlifecare picture
  • External supplier management across a variety of categories such as gardening, Food and Beverage, deliveries, couriers, electricians, plumbers, security etc.
  • Understanding of the regulatory obligations under H&S, Health, and Disability etc.
