The Animal Science group in the School of Agriculture and Environment at Massey University is seeking motivated and hands-on applicants to fill two permanent, full-time Teaching Technician positions. These positions support teaching and learning across our highly regarded Animal Science and

Agriculture programmes and are based on the Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.

  • Working within the School of Agriculture and Environment, you will play a vital role in the delivery of practical teaching activities across Animal Science,
  • Agriculture and associated programmes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong animal-based practical skills, a passion for education, and a desire to contribute to the success of students studying animal production, welfare, health, and management.
  • As a Teaching Technician, you will work closely with academic staff, students, technicians, and farm teams to coordinate and deliver high-quality learning experiences.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the preparation, setup, operation, and maintenance of teaching laboratories and practical classes.
  • Supporting and demonstrating in practical teaching activities in laboratory and field environments.
  • Assisting students in developing animal handling, technical, and professional skills.
  • Sourcing and managing teaching resources, including animals, biological specimens, and laboratory consumables.
  • Supporting online and blended learning activities, including maintaining and updating course resources and on-line learning platforms.
  • Assisting with assessment activities, marking coursework, and invigilation of assessments.
  • Developing and maintaining teaching guides, standard operating procedures, and learning resources.
  • Supporting animal ethics processes and maintaining required records
  • Ensuring high standards of health, safety, animal welfare, and student wellbeing.


Mōu | About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Animal Science, AgriScience, or in a related discipline.
  • Practical experience handling a range of domestic, companion, and production animal species.
  • Confidence working with animal tissues, biological specimens, and practical teaching materials.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with academic staff, students, farm
  • personnel, and external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to animal welfare, health and safety, and excellent student experiences.
  • Good digital literacy, including Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn about online teaching platforms.
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence.


We would be particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Experience working in tertiary education, training, or extension environments.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.
  • Understanding of New Zealand's livestock and animal production industries.
  • Experience creating online learning resources, videos, or digital teaching materials.


The successful candidate will be comfortable working with live animals, animal tissues, cadavers, and practical teaching environments while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and safety.

The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of NZD$60,069

to NZD$84,876.
