We have two exciting opportunities available within our hard-working Regulatory team based in Queenstown. We welcome applications from candidates at the Graduate, Officer and Senior Officer level.


What you’ll be doing / He aha te mahi


You will play a key role in monitoring compliance with resource consents and environmental management requirements, providing regulatory advice, and helping ensure sustainable development across the district.


The role will involve:


  • Monitoring of conditions imposed on resource consents and site visits, to make sound decisions to ensure compliance
  • Responding to “Requests for Service” from the public and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing sound regulatory, technical and enforcement advice in line with relevant legislation and Council policies.
  • Investigating alleged breaches and taking appropriate enforcement action where required.
  • Preparing and serving notices, infringements, permits and court enforcement documentation.
  • Reviewing Building Consent and Project Information Memorandums for District Plan compliance.
  • Building positive working relationships with applicants, consultants, contractors and the wider community.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the Planning and Development team.
  • For Senior Officer appointments, mentoring team members, providing technical leadership and supporting workload coordination as required.

What you’ll bring to the role / Ko wai to Pukeka


The officer role will have a relevant qualification and experience in planning, compliance, environmental management or a related field. The Senior Officer will have a tertiary qualification in planning, resource management or environmental management, with Significant experience (typically 5+ years) in resource management, compliance, enforcement, planning or local government. Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting the development of team members is desirable.


To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:


  • Experience in resource management, environmental compliance, enforcement, planning or local government.
  • Knowledge of the Resource Management Act and related legislation.
  • Strong investigation, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or equivalent is desirable.
