About the role


Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior Legal Counsel to join its Auckland CBD-based legal team. This is a broad and highly engaging role for a lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business, navigating complex issues and providing clear, pragmatic advice.


You will advise senior stakeholders across commercial, governance, regulatory, risk and compliance matters, with particularly strong exposure to technology, digital initiatives and business transformation. Your work will span complex commercial contracts, privacy and data, technology and software arrangements, intellectual property, AML, health and safety and broader corporate advisory matters.


With exposure to both New Zealand and international matters, you will enjoy genuine variety, strategic involvement and the opportunity to influence important business decisions while remaining hands-on with interesting legal work.

What we’re looking for

  • An admitted Barrister and Solicitor with a current NZ Legal Practising Certificate
  • At least 7 years’ post-qualification experience — ideally from a top-tier firm, in-house role, or a mix of both
  • Solid corporate/commercial experience, especially in areas like M&A, complex contracts, tech agreements, regulatory advice, privacy, governance, or project work
  • The ability to spot legal risks and turn them into practical, business-friendly solutions
  • A strong communicator — clear, concise, and detail-focused, both in writing and in person
  • Someone who loves using tech to work smarter and bring efficiency to what you do
  • Someone is self-driven, organised, and who thrives when juggling competing priorities
  • Energy, creativity, and a great sense of humour
  • You genuinely enjoy building relationships and feel confident engaging with people at all levels
