Help shape Wellington's future through great financial advice.

At Wellington City Council, we're working together for Pōneke's future. Behind every community facility, infrastructure project, event, service, and strategic investment is a team making sure we make smart, sustainable decisions with public money.

We're looking for a commercially minded Management Accountant who enjoys partnering with leaders, turning complex financial information into meaningful insights, and helping deliver positive outcomes for Wellington communities. This role is based within our Financial Planning and Partnering Team, supporting business units across the organisation with trusted financial advice, planning, forecasting, reporting, and performance insights.

This is more than a transactional accounting role. You'll act as a trusted advisor, translating financial and operational data into clear recommendations that support services delivered to Wellington's communities. You'll build strong relationships, challenge constructively, and help managers navigate everything from budgets and forecasting through to long-term planning and strategic decision-making.

  • Strong experience in management accounting, finance business partnering, or a similar commercial finance environment
  • The ability to translate financial and operational information into practical business insights
  • Experience developing and interpreting complex financial models and forecasts
