Te Matapihi is Wellington's newest community, creative and civic hub, bringing together a diverse range of tenants, visitors, organisations and activities within a shared environment. We're seeking an experienced and highly organised Te Matapihi Facility Manager to join us on a 12-month fixed-term basis and help establish the operational foundations that will support the facility's ongoing success.


This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in shaping the experience of one of Wellington's most exciting Council facilities. You'll be responsible for ensuring Te Matapihi operates safely, efficiently and cohesively, while creating a welcoming and connected environment for tenants, visitors, partners and the wider community.

As part of the Activation, Arts & Economy business unit, you'll work at the heart of a facility designed to support collaboration, creativity, community connection and city vibrancy.


Ngā Taipitopito Tūranga | Role details

Reporting to the Arts Venues Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day operational management of Te Matapihi and act as the key coordination point across tenants, shared spaces, facility users and Council teams. You'll ensure the building runs smoothly while identifying opportunities to improve utilisation, enhance visitor experiences and support activation across the facility.


You will:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of Te Matapihi as a busy multi-use Council facility.
  • Coordinate activity across tenants, partners, users and Council teams including Property Management
  • Oversee shared spaces, manage bookings, activations and facility utilisation.
  • Support the delivery of exhibitions, installations, events and public-facing activities.
  • Build strong working relationships across the facility and act as a central point of contact for operational matters.
  • Coordinate facility-wide communications relating to shared spaces and activities.
  • Champion a welcoming and customer-focused visitor experience.
  • Monitor facility performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and utilisation.
  • Support the ongoing development of operational processes, systems and service standards.
  • Ensure operational issues, risks and health and safety matters are appropriately managed and escalated.

We're looking for a practical and collaborative facilities or venue professional who enjoys bringing people together, solving problems and ensuring complex environments operate effectively.


You'll bring:

  • Experience managing or coordinating facilities, venues, public-facing spaces or multi-user environments.
  • Strong operational planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven experience coordinating bookings, activities, shared spaces and stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with tenants, customers, contractors, partners and internal teams.
  • Strong customer service and visitor experience focus.
  • Experience managing operational issues and delivering practical solutions.
  • Confidence using booking systems, scheduling tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in arts, cultural, community, events or public sector environments would be highly regarded.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to working within a bicultural framework.
