Job Description

About this role

  • Be part of high-impact change across Corrections prosecutions
  • Provide quality advice that makes a real difference
  • Six positions available with opportunity to be based throughout New Zealand

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Regional Advisers, Prosecution Support Team (PST), are part of the Legal Services Unit at Corrections. Legal Services are trusted advisers to the Department, supporting the achievement of organisational objectives through expert legal guidance. As the second-largest prosecutor in New Zealand's justice system, Corrections makes complex decisions that have a direct impact on community safety and reducing reoffending.

The Legal Services Unit supports high-quality prosecution outcomes by providing advice to frontline probation colleagues and ensuring decisions are consistent with prosecution policy and legal standards.

We are recruiting six Regional Advisers to support a significant nationwide change in how Corrections manages prosecution decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team at the forefront of an important transformation and help shape future practice across the organisation.

As a Regional Adviser, you will provide expert advice on prosecution matters, ensure files meet Crown standards and court deadlines, and build strong relationships with colleagues across the business. Success in this role requires sound judgement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to provide trusted advice while working collaboratively with practitioners who manage people in the community every day.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

We are looking for people who can bring a combination of technical knowledge, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach to their work. Ideally, you will have:

  • Knowledge of prosecution processes, investigations, and evidential requirements.
  • Experience preparing legal or court-related documents and supporting prosecution processes, or a strong interest in developing expertise in this area.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide trusted advice, influence others, and work in partnership.
  • The ability to analyse information, exercise sound judgement, and take accountability for delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (such as law or criminology), or significant experience in a prosecution, legal, justice, or regulatory environment.

While skills, knowledge, and experience are important, we are equally interested in people who are excited by the opportunity to contribute to a significant change for the Department. We're looking for team members whose values align with ours, who build positive relationships, and who are committed to working collaboratively to achieve successful outcomes.

Ngā painga | The benefits

The midpoint of the salary range is $104,897 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $89,163 - $125,877 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
