At New Shoots, we believe exceptional learning outcomes begin with exceptional leaders.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Team Leader to join our centre and play a key role in supporting high-quality teaching, leading curriculum excellence, mentoring teachers, and fostering strong relationships with tamariki, whānau and the wider centre team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident educator who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey or further develop their leadership experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.

About New Shoots The Lakes

Located in the heart of the growing Lakes community in Tauranga, New Shoots The Lakes is a purpose-built centre with a strong family feel. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do, and our passionate team creates a warm, welcoming environment where tamariki and whānau feel supported, valued and connected.

About the Role

As Team Leader, you will work closely with the Centre Director and wider leadership team to ensure your learning environment operates effectively and reflects best practice in early childhood education.

You will lead by example, creating engaging learning opportunities for children while supporting and mentoring teachers to grow in confidence and capability. You will champion quality practice, curriculum implementation, and positive team culture while ensuring children experience a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where they can thrive.

This role requires someone who is highly organised, relationship-focused and passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences for tamariki.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the delivery of a high-quality learning programme aligned with children's interests, strengths and development.
  • Create safe, engaging and inclusive learning environments that foster curiosity, exploration and a sense of belonging.
  • Mentor, coach and support teaching team members, role modelling best practice and professionalism.
  • Build strong relationships with tamariki, whānau and colleagues to create a positive centre culture.
  • Maintain high standards of curriculum planning, assessment and learning documentation.
  • Support the Centre Director with day-to-day room leadership, compliance and centre operations.
  • Champion continuous improvement and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

About You

You will:

  • Hold an ECE qualification and current Teacher Registration.
  • Have a strong understanding of Te Whāriki and quality teaching practice.
  • Be a confident leader who enjoys mentoring and supporting others.
  • Build genuine relationships with children, whānau and colleagues.
  • Bring a positive, professional and solutions-focused approach.
  • Have a particular passion and strength in working with preschool-aged children, supporting their learning, independence and preparation for school.
  • Thrive in a collaborative team environment and lead by example.

Why Join New Shoots?

  • Supportive and collaborative leadership team.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • A centre culture built on relationships, respect and teamwork.
  • The opportunity to positively influence teaching practice and learning outcomes.
  • A rewarding role where your leadership makes a genuine difference every day.
