General Marine Services (GMS) is a proudly New Zealand-owned company with over 32 years of experience supporting boat builders, marine engineers, DIY owners, and superyacht professionals. From our busy Westhaven store, we supply fluid-handling and engineering solutions that keep vessels operating safely and efficiently.


We are seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Parts Interpreter to join our growing team. In this role, you will be the go-to expert for identifying, locating, and supplying the correct mechanical parts and components for our customers and internal service technicians.


Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:


  • Accurately identifying and interpreting Marine or commercial components using manufacturers parts catalogues and OEM systems
  • Assisting walk-in, phone, and online customers by providing expert advice, price quotes, and availability updates.
  • Working closely with our internal service technicians to ensure they have the correct parts required for service jobs.
  • Receiving, unpacking, and logging incoming stock and keeping the parts department looking sharp and organized at all times.
  • Placing orders with suppliers, tracking shipments, and processing invoices and returns efficiently.


About You


You'll possesses strong technical problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to navigate digital parts catalogues quickly and accurately. If you have a background in Automotive / Agricultural / Heavy Machinery / Marine parts and love delivering exceptional customer service, we want to hear from you!


To succeed in this role, you'll need:


  • Strong spoken and written English with confidence interpreting technical information.
  • Previous experience as a Parts Interpreter or in a similar automotive/machinery parts role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components and systems
  • Eligibility to live and work in New Zealand.
