The Company

Our client is a large and well-established New Zealand organisation with a significant national presence and a complex, multi-site operating model. The business is currently experiencing a period of transformation, with a number of finance initiatives underway alongside the preparation for the new financial year. As a result, they are looking to bring an experienced finance professional into the team on a contract basis to provide additional support through a busy period.

The Role

You will provide hands-on support throughout the budgeting process across a substantial national branch network, helping ensure budgets are accurate, reconciled and consolidated.


This is a highly analytical role where attention to detail and strong technical accounting skills will be key. You'll work closely with the FP&A Manager and wider finance team, providing additional capability during their first year-end and budgeting cycle.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and completing detailed reconciliations, consolidating business unit information to provide an accurate national view
  • Reviewing monthly P&Ls and analysing actual performance against budget, identifying key movements, risks, opportunities and variances
  • Supporting the preparation of monthly management reporting and providing clear financial analysis and commentary
  • Assisting with financial modelling, forecasting and performance tracking as required
  • Partnering closely with the FP&A Manager and wider finance team to provide practical financial insight and support decision-making

Your Profile

You'll be technically strong and comfortable working with large datasets and complex financial information. You will have excellent attention to detail and be confident getting into the detail while also understanding the bigger commercial picture.


We're looking for:

  • Strong financial accounting and/or FP&A experience and proven experience working with budgets, forecasting and P&L analysis
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large volumes of data
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability
  • The ability to identify discrepancies and investigate issues independently
  • Strong communication skills and commercial acumen
  • Experience working within a multi-site or retail environment would be advantageous
  • Experience with finance system implementations or system change would be beneficial
