The role will involve working across commercial construction projects of varying sizes, so the successful candidate will need to be adaptable and comfortable adjusting their approach depending on the project size and scope.

The role

You will take responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of commercial construction sites, leading site teams and working closely with project management, trades, suppliers, subcontractors, clients and consultants to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and coordinating day-to-day site operations across commercial vertical construction projects
  • Leading, motivating and coordinating site teams of up to 20 people, including direct employees, trades and subcontractors
  • Planning and organising site activities, materials, labour and resources to meet programme requirements
  • Monitoring project progress, workmanship, quality, cost awareness and programme performance
  • Ensuring health and safety standards, site procedures and compliance requirements are maintained at all times
  • Reading and working confidently from plans, drawings, specifications and construction programmes
  • Liaising regularly with clients, consultants, project managers, suppliers and subcontractors to maintain clear communication and collaborative working relationships
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors across the Otago region
  • Responding effectively to site queries, identifying practical solutions and escalating matters where required
  • Preparing and raising Requests for Information (RFIs) when design details, specifications or site conditions require clarification
  • Leading weekly coordination and site progress meetings, documenting actions and following through on agreed outcomes
  • Ensuring sites are organised, productive and professionally presented
  • Completing accurate site documentation, reporting and project records

About you

We are looking for a practical, organised and adaptable construction professional who can lead from the front, build trusted relationships and maintain clear communication across the project team.

You may be an experienced Site Manager, or a capable Foreman/Site Supervisor who is ready to take the next step.

You will have:

  • Proven vertical commercial construction experience, ideally gained on projects of varying size and complexity
  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating site teams of up to 20 people
  • A strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, quality requirements and site operations
  • Established relationships with, or strong knowledge of, suppliers and subcontractors in the Otago region
  • Confidence liaising regularly and professionally with clients, consultants, project managers, trades and subcontractors
  • Experience chairing weekly coordination and site progress meetings, recording actions and ensuring timely follow-up
  • The ability to assess and resolve site queries efficiently, with a practical and solutions-focused approach
  • Idealy experience preparing and raising RFIs when clarification of drawings, specifications or design information is required
  • Strong planning, organisation, communication and documentation skills
  • A strong commitment to health and safety; Site Safe supervisory training or an equivalent qualification would be advantageous
  • The flexibility to work across projects of different sizes and complexities
  • A full NZ driver's licence

Candidates stepping up from a Foreman or Site Supervisor position may also be considered where they can demonstrate strong commercial construction fundamentals, proven people leadership, confident stakeholder communication and the potential to take full ownership of site delivery. The client is prepared to support the right person’s continued development.

What's on offer?

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Competitive salary package based on experience, with full use of company vehicle and Medical Insurance
  • Variety of commercial projects, from smaller works through to larger developments
  • Opportunity to take ownership and responsibility on site

  • Long-term career opportunity with an established construction company
  • A positive and professional working environment
