Job Description

We're on the lookout for an experienced Monitoring Compliance Officer to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance across our district. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys a balance of fieldwork, investigation, customer engagement, and professional decision-making.

As a Monitoring Compliance Officer, you'll work with a diverse range of people including residents, businesses, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for our community while upholding the law fairly, consistently, and professionally.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Conducting inspections, investigations, and compliance assessments.
  • Enforcing relevant legislation, including the Resource Management Act, Litter Act, Local Government Act, andCouncil bylaws.
  • Managing Requests for Service (RFS) and compliance cases from investigation through to resolution.
  • Gathering evidence, assessing risks, and implementing appropriate compliance responses.
  • Providing professional, solutions-focused customer service and regulatory advice.
  • Building positive relationships with customers, contractors, agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Preparing reports, notices, correspondence, and maintaining accurate case records.
  • Contributing to a collaborative team environment, continuous improvement initiatives, and organisationalresilience, including Civil Defence response activities when required.

We're looking for someone who brings:


  • Qualifications related to local government legislation (desirable).
  • Experience in local government, monitoring, or compliance roles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaboration and gain cooperation.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Well-developed report writing, documentation, and process improvement skills.
  • Proven relationship management and stakeholder engagement capability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access.
  • A passion for achieving positive outcomes for the community.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong, productive working relationships.

  • The salary for this position is Grade 13 within Council's salary structure (Band: $70,487 to $82,926 pro rataper annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
