Job Description

Join a friendly team of volunteers, making a difference to our furry friends and communities! Founded in 2017, Saving Hope Foundation is a registered dog rescue charity with volunteers that not only rescue and re-home puppies and dogs, but also provide vital community support to families struggling with litters, raising awareness on de-sexing and roaming dog prevention to decrease backyard breeding, increase dog welfare and public safety through the reduction of litters and roaming dogs. Helping create positive change, every litter brought into care is de-sexed and their parents are also de-sexed by Saving Hope, when they are known.


Foster volunteers are a vital lifeline to this work. Ideally, we’re looking for:


  • Families, couples or individuals in Auckland with a safely fenced home and the kind patience to love and adore mixed breed puppies (fostered in pairs) in their home, until the puppies find their forever homes. From time to time there’s potential to foster adult small breeds, when they’re in care.
  • Fosters need to be home during the day to help with toilet training and provide enough mental/physical stimulation and basic training like “sit.”
  • Families who have children or other pets to socialise the puppies with, are also a bonus but not essential. 


Key notes: Fostering is until adoption, however long this may take - sometimes it’s a few weeks, other times it is months and on occasion it can be longer. Some find their homes quickly, others may take a wee while. Great photos and thorough bios frequently updated to our website, make a huge difference to how quickly the pups are adopted. You’re also welcome to advertise on all of your local re-homing pages. Ability to attend our Auckland Puppy Day Out Adoption Events to help catch the interest of their forever homes, is also a big plus and a great way to make friends in our foster community. The foster also chooses the homes their puppies go to and puppy updates from the adopters, are a lovely part of fostering.


Saving Hope provides all of the vet costs, food and all the supplies (crates, bedding, blankets, bowls and more). We have a network of vets that we utilise, there’s a local one nearby to everyone and the vet list is shared in our foster handbook which our Foster Co-ordinator provides to all foster applicants. The foster handbook is a great guide for a lot of the detail on fostering. We also have a dedicated team of fosters who you can chat to at any time to answer any questions throughout your foster journey. We set up litter chats on Facebook messenger to keep everyone in touch, so you’re never alone in this rewarding journey.
