Downer is seeking a skilled and motivated Industrial Electrician to join our EICA (Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) team based in Dunedin. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of industrial electrical and automation projects, supporting critical infrastructure and delivering high-quality outcomes.


In this hands-on role, you'll undertake planned and reactive maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and installations across industrial electrical, PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, and automation systems. You'll work both independently and as part of a team, contributing to the growth of our automation capability while delivering exceptional service and technical expertise.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out maintenance, repairs, and installation of industrial electrical and automation assets.
  • Working on PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Supporting planned and reactive electrical works to meet client and contract requirements.
  • Identifying and resolving electrical faults while proactively seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records, reports, testing documentation, and as-built drawings.
  • Building strong relationships with clients and identifying opportunities for additional works.
  • Mentoring apprentices and supporting their development and training.
  • Travelling as required to support project and maintenance activities.
  • Participating in after-hours support and on-call activities when required.

This role is ideal for an electrician who enjoys problem-solving and delivering practical solutions across a variety of industrial environments.

Ngā pūkenga matua | What We're Looking For

We're looking for an industrial electrician who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys working in a collaborative team environment.

You'll bring:

  • A New Zealand Registered Electrician qualification with a current EWRB Practising Licence.
  • Experience working within industrial electrical environments.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and automation systems (highly desirable).
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to plan, organise, and complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working directly with clients and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to complete digital job records and reporting.
  • A proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Leadership capability, including the ability to mentor apprentices and support team development.
  • A full New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and contribute to the growth of our automation capability.
