Job Description

Part-Time Accountant (payroll experience a bonus)

Auckland HQ | Part-time, 20 hours (salary prorated) a week with days and times negotiable | Reporting to the Finance Manager

Haka House is a hostel and hospitality group with 13+ properties and 150+ staff across Aotearoa. Behind every great guest stay is a team that keeps the numbers running smoothly, and we’re looking for an accountant to join our finance team at head office.

About the role

You’ll work alongside our Finance Manager to look after the day to day finances for a portfolio of our properties. You’ll be the go-to person for finance questions from our property teams and head office, and you’ll help us keep cash flow, reporting and payroll accurate and on time.

What you’ll do

  • Process and pay accounts payable and manage accounts receivable accurately and on time
  • Handle reconciliation and coding, and follow up with suppliers when something doesn’t look right
  • Prepare profit and loss and other month end reporting, due 10 working days after month end
  • Support payroll administration for staff at your properties
  • Train our property teams on our purchase order process and finance systems
  • Explain any material differences against budget clearly and simply
  • Help the Finance Manager with quarterly, year end and ad hoc reporting

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least two years’ experience in a similar accounting role
  • Payroll experience would be a real advantage
  • Comfort with commonly used accounting systems
  • Great attention to detail and good time management
  • Clear, friendly communication, especially with people who aren’t finance specialists
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a strong sense of ownership
  • Interest in the tourism and hospitality industry and a willingness to learn about te reo Māori and Aotearoa’s culture

Why Haka House

We’re a values-led team that cares about our people, our guests and the land we call home. This is a 20 hour a week role and we’re open to talking about which days and times suit you, alongside flexitime. You’ll also get a real say in how your work is done and the chance to be part of a company that likes to do things a little better each time.
