We're looking for an Executive Assistant to join our Assurance, Finance and Risk directorate in a full-time, permanent role based in Queenstown. You’ll be joining a highly engaged and passionate team that deliver crucial work for our community. What you’ll be doing / He aha te mahi


As the Executive Assistant for Assurance, Finance & Risk, you'll provide exceptional executive support to the General Manager and Directorate leaders, ensuring priorities are delivered effectively and key business needs are met. This is a highly trusted role that combines executive coordination, governance support, analysis and research, procurement administration, and stakeholder engagement. You'll work across a wide range of Council activities, supporting informed decision-making while building strong relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders.


The role will also involve:


  • Provide executive support, analysis and recommendations to support informed decision-making and the effective delivery of Directorate priorities.
  • Lead and coordinate governance requirements, including tracking actions, supporting report preparation processes and ensuring key deadlines are met.
  • Research, prepare and quality assure reports, policies, correspondence, briefing material and other business documentation.
  • Manage and respond to complex internal and external enquiries, including LGOIMAs and complaints, ensuring timely, accurate and appropriate responses.
  • Support operational initiatives, projects, business improvement activities, procurement processes and Council contract administration across the Directorate.
  • Build positive working relationships across the organisation, coordinate information and operational activities, and support key Assurance, Finance & Risk meetings and events.

We're looking for a highly organised and proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently balance multiple priorities.


You'll bring strong executive support, governance, and coordination experience, along with excellent judgement, discretion, and stakeholder management skills. Most importantly, you'll be comfortable working across a broad range of strategic and operational activities while building trusted relationships at all levels of the organisation.


To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:


  • A relevant tertiary qualification in business management or a related discipline.
  • 3-4 years' experience in business advisory, project coordination, governance support, business improvement, or operational planning roles.
  • Strong research, analysis, project coordination, and report writing skills, with exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Proven ability to prioritise competing demands, manage changing priorities, and support strategic work to achieve organisational outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and influence across all levels of an organisation.
  • Demonstrated political awareness, sound judgement, professionalism, confidentiality, and experience working with sensitive information.
  • Experience working within a local government environment and knowledge of local government legislation, policy, and practice would be advantageous.
  • Experience with procurement processes, contract management, and business systems, with proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with TechOne, purchasing, and invoicing processes is advantageous.
  • A current, valid New Zealand driver's license.
