We're looking for a Line 1 Senior Risk Manager to partner closely with our Modernisation Division, embedding a strong risk culture while enabling safe transformation at pace.


This role provides a unique opportunity to gain an enterprise-wide perspective of ASB, by assisting the Modernisation division to manage the risks of one of New Zealand largest technology transformation programmes.

While technology risk management experience would be beneficial, it is not a prerequisite . We are particularly interested in hearing from risk and compliance professionals with experience in complex technology, change, or transformation programmes, coupled with excellent stakeholder management, and a proactive attitude.

Mo te tūranga | About the role:


Your key responsibilities will include:


  • Coach, train, and support the Modernisation Office (MO) and Tribes in identifying and managing risks and compliance activity, both for day-to-day activities and for programme initiatives.
  • Lead Technology Risk Assessments (TRAs), Change Management Risk Standard (CMRS) initiatives, ensuring alignment to the ASB Delivery Framework (ADF), providing a forward-looking view of controls and risk reviews required for execution.
  • Monitor the programme’s Delivery Risk, key milestones, and lead uplift initiatives.
  • Proactively engage ASB Centres of Excellence (CoEs) and Line 2/3 representatives to ensure risk requirements and controls are complaint by design.
  • Support the Modernisation division in managing internal and external assurance activity.
  • Develop, manage, and continuously improve the Modernisation Risk Profile.
  • Contribute to programme and strategic risk assessments.
  • Increasing organisational capability through programme risk outreach.
  • Provide pragmatic risk solutions incorporating ASB values and risk appetite, allowing the programme to safely test and learn to create new and innovative solutions.
  • Develop and manage parts of our team backlogs, sprint planning, and success measures.

  • Strong technology and/or business risk and compliance experience, preferably in complex technology, change, or transformation programmes.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and autonomously.
  • Innovative, proactive, and self-motivated.
  • Strong negotiation and consensus building skills when dealing with internal customers, stakeholders and team members, as well as the ability to build relationships across other functional lines.
  • Critical thinking - can identify issues and develop risk mitigation strategies with sound problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Able to translate complex information to influence others and deliver understandable and compelling presentations.
