Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced people leader to join ASB as Regional Manager Insurance, based in Christchurch. Reporting to the Head of Insurance Distribution, you will lead a team of 8+ Insurance Managers to support the growth aspirations of Insurance Distribution across the South Island.


This is an opportunity to shape how we reach and protect more ASB customers, while building a strong and trusted team that delivers great customer outcomes.


Te Tūranga | The role


As Regional Manager Insurance, you will lead, coach and motivate your team to provide first-class insurance guidance and advice to ASB customers. You will provide clear direction, build capability and drive performance across individual scorecards and regional referral channels.


Strong stakeholder management will be critical to your success. You will build trusted relationships across the region, strengthen referral partnerships and work closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for growth, customer retention and improved performance.


You will support the delivery of Insurance Distribution strategies and ensure your team has the right tools, processes and development to succeed. You will also oversee performance, risk, customer issues and continuous improvement across your portfolio.


While most of the team and key stakeholders are based in Christchurch, you will lead people across several locations. Regional travel will therefore be required.

You will be an experienced and collaborative people leader who can bring teams together, set clear expectations and drive sustained performance improvement across different locations.


Ideally, you will bring strong knowledge of the insurance industry alongside proven leadership experience.


You will also bring:


  • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing teams within a customer-focused environment
  • A strong performance focus and the ability to lift capability and results
  • Strong business planning, commercial, networking and stakeholder management skills
  • At least five years’ financial services experience and five years’ experience as a Financial Adviser
  • A National Certificate Level 5 in Insurance, or be working towards this qualification


You will be comfortable making informed decisions, managing risk and challenging existing ways of working to improve customer and business outcomes.
