  • Combine site supervision, machinery operation and construction
  • Lead a hands-on retaining wall construction crew
  • Join our growing team at Waikato Post Ramming

Lead from the front. Build quality retaining walls. Get hands-on with the crew and the machinery.

Waikato Post Ramming Ltd is looking for an experienced Site Supervisor to lead our retaining wall construction team across the Waikato region.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows retaining wall construction inside and out. You'll be leading the crew, operating excavators and working on the tools while taking responsibility for site safety, quality, productivity and day-to-day coordination.

We're looking for someone who can plan ahead, solve problems on site and lead by example to get the job done safely and to a high standard.

About the role

Working closely with our General Manager and Field Operations Manager, you'll oversee retaining wall projects from site preparation through to construction and completion.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, organise and work alongside the retaining wall crew on site.
  • Construct retaining walls to approved drawings, specifications and set-out information.
  • Operate excavators with auger attachments to drill holes, excavate and safely lift and place poles.
  • Install posts and poles, cut and fix wall timber, and complete drainage, backfilling and compaction where required.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, pile schedules, set-out markings and levels.
  • Coordinate labour, machinery, materials, deliveries, subcontractors and daily work programmes.
  • Monitor workmanship, productivity, site progress and material quality.
  • Lead site health and safety, including pre-starts, toolbox meetings, hazard identification and exclusion zones.
  • Identify site issues, changing ground conditions and potential delays, and communicate these promptly to management.
  • Complete daily site records, equipment checks and progress reporting.

About you

We're looking for a practical, switched-on leader who takes ownership of the work and the people around you. You can keep a crew organised, make sound decisions on site and recognise when an issue needs to be escalated.

You don't mind getting your hands dirty, you're confident around heavy machinery and you understand that quality construction starts with good planning, clear communication and doing things right the first time.

You'll need to demonstrate:

  • Proven retaining wall construction experience is essential.
  • Proven excavator operating experience using auger attachments and safely lifting and placing poles is essential.
  • Experience supervising or leading a construction crew.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and set-out information.
  • Strong understanding of safe plant operation, lifting practices and site health and safety.
  • Experience using chainsaws and electric and battery-operated hand tools.
  • Strong planning, communication and practical problem-solving skills.
  • A reliable, accountable approach and the ability to lead by example.
  • Relevant plant competencies, licences or endorsements as required.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence is preferred.

Experience in pile driving is an advantage but is not essential.

If you have the retaining wall construction experience and excavator skills to lead from the front, we'd like to hear from you.
