About the Role


Our Babies Cottage at BestStart Ponsonby has just undergone a stunning full refurbishment, creating a beautiful, nurturing space for our youngest learners. We're excited to be looking for an inspiring Head Teacher to join our long-standing, passionate team.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team of teachers who are committed to providing exceptional care and education for our pēpi. You'll be supported by an experienced Centre Manager who is passionate about developing people and creating a positive, collaborative culture.


As Head Teacher, you will lead the Babies Cottage team, role model high-quality teaching practice, mentor and support your colleagues, and ensure our learning environment is inspiring, responsive, and centred around the individual needs of every child. This is a permanent 40-hour per week position, Monday to Friday.


About You


We're looking for a natural leader who shares our values and vision and is passionate about supporting both children and teachers to thrive.


You'll bring:


  • A Bachelor of Education/Diploma in Teaching (ECE) Level 7 and current New Zealand Teacher Registration.
  • Previous leadership experience or the confidence to step into a leadership role.
  • A strong understanding of programme planning, assessment, pedagogy, and curriculum.
  • Sound knowledge of Te Whāriki, current ECE Regulations, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of compliance.
  • A passion for quality teaching and learning, with a focus on creating meaningful relationships with children, whānau, and your team.
  • A positive, energetic approach and a genuine love for working with infants.
