About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a hands-on construction or yard background to step into a key role with one of New Zealand’s leading construction companies. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will liaise with our other plant teams across New Zealand while supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the South Auckland yard. With the position split approximately 80% labouring and 20% administration, it offers a great opportunity for someone looking to build broader experience across construction operations, plant coordination and site support. The role is based in South Auckland and operates Monday to Friday, 6.30am–4.00pm.


Job Purpose

To support the efficient, organised and safe operation of the LTM Plant and yard by coordinating plant bookings and movement, truck dispatch, equipment readiness, stock control, record keeping and daily yard activities. The role is responsible for helping ensure plant and equipment are available, maintained, fit for purpose and dispatched efficiently, while upholding LTM Health and Safety policies, supporting site requirements, and carrying out the duties listed below.


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


• Task allocation and yard coordination: Allocate yard labour in response to site requests, plant requirements and day-to-day yard priorities. Communicate clearly with the team to keep work coordinated, raise issues with the Yard Manager, and provide constructive feedback where required.

• Dispatch, transport and logistics: Record accurate details of all outgoing and incoming plant, equipment or other items, either via the LTM truck or external transport companies. Plan truck routing and timings to maximise efficiency, and co-ordinate with external transport companies where required.

• Loading and unloading operations: Carry out and / or supervise the safe and efficient loading and unloading of the LTM truck and other transport providers. Ensure trucks use a spotter while moving within the yard premises and when exiting the compound.

• Plant, equipment and stock control: Record plant items and quantities delivered or returned from sites, noting any damage or losses. Check supplier deliveries against delivery dockets, confirm quantities received, and report any discrepancies to the Yard Manager.

• Site support and problem solving: Respond to site requests and enquiries in a timely, professional manner. Provide practical advice and suitable alternatives where requested plant items are unavailable, with a focus on making best use of available resources.

• Supplier liaison and purchasing support: Liaise with suppliers to source products based on suitability, availability and value for money. Refer all plant purchase, servicing or cost requests to the Yard Manager for approval before any expenditure is committed.

• Equipment readiness and safety checks: Ensure all items being dispatched are clean, operational and fit for purpose. Confirm required safety checks are completed for shoreloads, props, slims, mobile scaffold units and any jacking, lifting or critical load-bearing equipment before delivery.

• Maintenance, repairs and compliance: Separate formwork panels or other equipment requiring repair and notify the Yard Manager. Monitor regulatory and servicing requirements for the LTM truck and forklift, including RUC, CoF, servicing, repairs, lights, tyres and fluids.

• Yard presentation and housekeeping: Maintain the yard in a clean, tidy and well-presented condition, with particular attention to high-visibility areas near the road frontage.

• Health and Safety: Ensure staff, subcontractors and visitors follow LTM Health and Safety policies, regulations and best-practice guidelines at all times. Carry out inspections, toolbox talks and yard inductions as required, in consultation with the Yard Manager and LTM Health and Safety Managers.

• Crane component support: Liaise with the Yard Manager to identify maintenance requirements for crane components and allocate labour where required.

• Labour planning: Advise the Yard Manager of any anticipated short-term labour requirements.

• General duties: Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by management.


Health, Safety & Enviroment:

• The role is physically strenuous and demanding.

• The incumbent will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects.

• Work will be carried out in all weather, including both extreme heat and cold.

• There may be exposure to unpleasant sights and smells, and dangerous and/or toxic substances.

• All necessary precautions must be taken at all times.


Ideal experience required:

• Ideally construction background (min two years).

• A full and clean driver’s licence; forklift experience would be ideal.

• Basic computer skills, including Outlook and Excel.

• Practical experience in yard, plant, construction, logistics, or similar operations.

• Confidence allocating tasks, communicating clearly, and keeping work organised.

• Knowledge of safe loading, unloading, equipment handling, yard procedures, and health and safety requirements.

• Strong attention to detail when recording dispatches, deliveries, returns, damage, maintenance, and compliance information.

• Good time-management skills and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

• A respectful, honest, flexible, and practical approach when dealing with managers, colleagues, suppliers, site teams, and visitors.
