Looking for flexible work where you can make a real difference every day?

We're looking for enthusiastic Catering Assistants to join our team at Whanganui Hospital on a casual basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to support patients, staff, and visitors by delivering quality food services in a healthcare environment where your contribution truly matters.

No two shifts are the same. You'll assist with food preparation, meal service, patient dining support, and maintaining high food safety and hygiene standards, all while working alongside a friendly and supportive team.

This is a casual position , with shifts offered on an as-needed basis to meet business requirements and no guaranteed hours, making it ideal for those looking for flexibility around study, family, or other commitments.


You'll also have the opportunity to earn additional penal rates when working eligible weekend shifts.


Ko o kawenga | Your responsibilities


  • Assist with preparing, portioning, and serving meals and beverages
  • Support patient meal services while meeting dietary requirements
  • Provide friendly and professional service to patients, staff, and visitors
  • Maintain clean and hygienic kitchen, ward, and dining areas
  • Assist with dishwashing, cleaning duties, and stock replenishment
  • Follow food safety, infection control, and health & safety procedures at all times

  • Previous hospitality, catering, food service, or customer service experience is preferred but not essential
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Reliable, hardworking, and able to work as part of a team
  • Comfortable in a hands-on and physically active environment
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine customer-focused approach
  • Commitment to food safety, hygiene, and high service standards
