Stratford ITM is locally owned and operated and part of New Zealand's largest group of independent timber, hardware and building supply merchants.


We're looking for a reliable and hands-on Yardperson / Inwards Goods team member to join our busy Stratford yard.


This is a varied role where you'll play an important part in keeping customer orders accurate, stock organised and the yard running smoothly.


What you'll be doing:


  • Preparing customer orders accurately and within required timeframes
  • Receiving and checking incoming goods against packing slips
  • Loading and unloading trucks using a forklift
  • Helping keep the timber yard organised and running efficiently
  • Carrying out general yard duties, including filleting timber
  • Identifying and reporting missing or damaged goods
  • Labelling stock and customer orders correctly
  • Serving customers and assisting with enquiries and phone orders
  • Assisting with deliveries when required
  • Monitoring stock levels and reporting when replenishment is required
  • Moving bathroom stock and customer orders into storage
  • Assisting with stocktakes and keeping storage areas organised
  • Operating plant, machinery and equipment safely
  • Assisting in the retail store when required
  • Keeping the yard, workshop and storage areas clean, tidy and safe
  • Working closely with managers and the wider team


About you


We're looking for someone who is:


  • Reliable, punctual and hardworking
  • Physically fit and comfortable with a hands-on role
  • Organised and able to work to deadlines
  • Accurate when checking orders, stock and paperwork
  • Customer-focused with a positive and professional attitude
  • A good communicator who works well with others
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a busy timber yard
  • Safety-conscious and committed to safe work practices
  • Able to take direction while also using initiative
  • Willing to help wherever needed to keep the team moving
  • Forklift experience or a current forklift licence would be an advantage


Experience in a timber yard, building supplies, warehousing, logistics or a similar environment would also be highly regarded.
