Job Description

The Company

My client is a fast-growing New Zealand company, operating in the manufacturing and export industries. The company is a New Zealand success story who produce a range of quality products at their manufacturing facilities across the country and export them globally. They are growing with investment and acquisitions being executed so this is a fantastic time to join this business.

The Role

This newly created role can be based in Invercargill or Gore. This is a hands-on, commercially focused Manufacturing Management Accounting role for someone who enjoys getting beneath the numbers and understanding what is really driving operational performance.

Working across South Island manufacturing operations as well as exposure to the North Island operations, you'll take ownership of regional manufacturing costing, inventory accounting, variance analysis and management reporting. More importantly, you'll work closely with operational leaders to translate complex production and financial data into clear insights, recommendations and actions

This is not a role where you'll simply report the numbers. You'll investigate them, challenge them and use them to help improve manufacturing performance.

You'll have broad ownership across manufacturing finance, including:

  • Owning and maintaining the standard costing framework across the region
  • Leading annual standard cost rolls and maintaining accurate Bills of Materials, routings, labour standards and overhead allocations
  • Analysing material, labour, overhead, production yield and mix variances
  • Managing inventory valuation across raw materials, work-in-progress and finished goods
  • Partnering with operational teams to understand cost movements, waste, productivity, scrap, rework and yield
  • Supporting budgets, rolling forecasts and reforecasting across manufacturing costs, volumes, labour, inventory and capital expenditure
  • Providing commercial insight around working capital and operational performance
  • Supporting CAPEX proposals, financial modelling, project tracking and post-investment reviews
  • Developing reporting and analysis using Excel, Power BI, SQL and other BI tools
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives through strong financial and operational analysis.

A big part of your success will come from relationships. You'll help operational managers better understand their KPIs and cost drivers, challenge performance constructively and build greater commercial awareness throughout the business.

Your Profile

You'll be a qualified accountant who combines strong technical manufacturing accounting capability with the confidence to operate as a genuine business partner.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • CA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, finance or commerce
  • Management accounting experience within manufacturing or another complex operational environment
  • Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting and variance analysis
  • Experience working with Bills of Materials, routings, production orders and cost masters
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting and month-end reporting capability
  • Advanced Excel skills with strong financial modelling and analytical ability
  • The ability to turn complex financial and operational information into straightforward commercial recommendations
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • A current clean driver's licence.

Experience within food manufacturing or primary industry would be particularly valuable. Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Power BI, SQL, lean manufacturing, mass-balance reporting or operational continuous improvement would also be advantageous.

Why this role?

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong manufacturing accountant who wants to get closer to operations and have more influence over business performance.

You'll have the scope to improve reporting and analytical capability, strengthen costing and financial controls, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and provide the commercial insight that helps operational leaders make better decisions. Some regional travel will be required.

If you enjoy combining manufacturing finance, data, operational problem-solving and business partnering, this is a role where you can make a visible impact.
