Senior Lecturer – Nursing

Wellington | 0.7 FTE | Ongoing

Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa’s prestigious School of Nursing is seeking a

vibrant and engaged Senior Lecturer. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide

exceptional leadership in nursing education and research at one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s top nursing schools. The position is a permanent ongoing role, 0.7FTE (nominally 26.25 hours per week) based on our Wellington campus (Monday to Friday).


Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Leadership: In contemporary nursing education contributing to curriculum development in

pre-registration and postgraduate programmes to support clinically and culturally safe nursing practise. Foster relationships with nurse leaders within the health sector, Iwi partners, and community and primary care providers.

Cultural Safety: Strengthen nursing education and practice by including Te Ao Māori,

mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and cultural safety within nursing courses and programmes.

Research and mentorship: lead successful grant applications, contribute to a vibrant research culture, and support junior staff in their research.


This position falls within a salary range of Senior Lecturer Range 1 (2026) is $107,916 -

$132,892 (NZD). Our intention would be to appoint at or around $110,000 ($77,000 pro rata), taking into account the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The employment setting will involve work with people across the lifespan and applicants will be required to comply with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children’s Workers) Regulations 2015.


Ko koe tēnei | About you

• Registered Nurse with a current annual practicing certificate (APC).

• A PhD or equivalent in nursing or a related field.

• Knowledge of Te Ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, tikanga and cultural safety and skills in

developing curriculum.

• Ability to lead and contribute to research projects using a range of methodologies.

• Ability to supervise doctoral students in mixed methods; an advantage is knowledge of

Kaupapa Māori / indigenous methodologies.

• Demonstrated engagement to form relationships with nurse leaders, Iwi partners, and

external stakeholders.

• Clinical leadership experience in nursing and education.

• Experience in curriculum development, and blended teaching approaches including

online technologies.

• Excellent communication in inter-disciplinary teams.

• Publications in national journals in nursing or health-related fields.
