Job Description

BestStart Barrington is seeking a passionate and dedicated Qualified and Registered Teacher to join our energetic and close-knit team in our Pūtangitangi Room (4-5 year olds) .

About the Role


This is a fixed-term position (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) covering parental leave from August 2026 to August 2027 .


Working in our Pūtangitangi Room (4-5 year olds) , you will play a key role in supporting tamariki as they develop the skills, confidence, and independence needed for their transition to school.


Our Kaiako support tamariki to develop strategies for reasoning and problem-solving, build resilience, and foster positive self-esteem. Through meaningful interactions and intentional teaching practices, you will help create an engaging and empowering learning environment where every child can thrive.

As part of our Set for School Programme , you will contribute to creating positive routines that support children's social and emotional development while extending their literacy and mathematical thinking. You'll encourage curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning, helping children become confident and capable learners.


About You


We are looking for a passionate teacher who shares our values and vision and is committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for tamariki.


You will bring:


  • BEd/Diploma in Teaching (Level 7 ECE) and current New Zealand Teacher Certification
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, assessment, planning, and curriculum implementation
  • Sound understanding of ECE Regulations and licensing criteria
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning, wellbeing, and development
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with whānau and colleagues
  • Enthusiasm for contributing positively to a diverse and inclusive learning environment
