Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re kicking off Fulton Hogan’s first-ever wind farm project in a couple of weeks, and we’re looking for a proven Project Engineer to help get this Amberley-based project out of the ground and running smoothly.

You’ll join ahead of main site works to help plan, coordinate and set the project up for success, then play a key role on site as construction ramps up. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You’ll need to back yourself, think clearly when plans shift, and make good calls when it counts.

While the wind farm project is an exciting starting point, it is only one part of the wider opportunity. We’re especially keen to hear from people with strong heavy civil structures experience, particularly around bridges and reinforced concrete, as this will be a bigger focus for future work. Experience in water infrastructure would also be highly valued. If you have not worked in that space yet, this role will give you exposure as that pipeline grows.

There’s also plenty of variety in where the work can take you. With projects coming up in Picton, Wānaka and Timaru, we’re looking for someone who is flexible on location and open to travel outside the wider Christchurch area.

If you enjoy different sites, different challenges, and the chance to build experience across a strong South Island pipeline, this role will keep things interesting.

We’re after someone already operating confidently at Project Engineer level. Wind farm experience is a bonus, but it’s not the main thing. We’re much more interested in someone with strong logistics management capability and hands-on experience across heavy civil structures rather than vertical builds.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day engineering delivery on site, with a strong focus on planning, sequencing and keeping work moving.
  • Own logistics management across key activities, including large concrete pours and other critical-path works.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to deliver safe, quality outcomes on programme.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and support the wider team by sharing knowledge, building capability and setting clear expectations.
  • Stay adaptable on site, respond quickly to change, and make sound decisions when challenges pop up.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • Proven experience already operating at Project Engineer level on civil infrastructure projects.
  • Strong logistics and coordination skills, ideally across large or complex reinforced concrete, structural, or bridge works.
  • Heavy civil structures experience that you’re keen to apply across a growing pipeline of infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in water infrastructure would be a real advantage, or a genuine interest in building experience in this space.
  • Flexibility to travel and work outside the wider Christchurch area as projects require, including Picton, Wānaka and Timaru.

Ko wai mātou | About us

At Fulton Hogan, we’re all about Good Work. Good Work is serious work, not so serious people. We solve real problems and build things that matter, but without the stiff corporate vibe. Titles matter less than ideas, and the best ones can come from anywhere.

We set high standards and back our people to meet them. That means honest feedback, real responsibility and support to keep growing. If you’re after a place where you can bring your experience, share what you know, and help shape delivery across major civil structures, reinforced concrete, and emerging water infrastructure work, you’ll fit right in.
