Join our Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations team and help shape efficient, sustainable waste services across the Queenstown Lakes District. This varied role combines contract coordination, improvement projects and community engagement, offering the opportunity to build your expertise while contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes.


What you’ll be doing / He aha te mahi


You’ll support the Contract Manager to deliver efficient, effective and compliant solid waste services across the district. You’ll also champion waste minimisation and build strong relationships with contractors, community groups and government agencies to achieve better outcomes for our community.


The role will involve:


  • Monitoring contract performance, compliance, quality assurance and health and safety through regular auditing
  • Identifying emerging compliance risks and supporting practical mitigation actions
  • Processing contract claims and invoices, maintaining accurate records, and supporting Ministry for the Environment reporting, budgets and forecasting
  • Managing small improvement projects and supporting contract reviews and procurement
  • Helping deliver the QLDC Waste Minimisation Plan through education, diversion initiatives, community events and service communications
  • Managing customer enquiries and waste service requests promptly, fairly and within agreed timeframes

What you’ll bring to the role / Ko wai to Pukeka


You’ll be an organised and proactive communicator who can build genuine working relationships with contractors, colleagues and the community. You’ll be comfortable learning new systems, working independently and balancing competing priorities. Experience in contract management or the waste sector is beneficial but not essential.


To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:


  • A relevant Level 5 qualification or equivalent knowledge, and a full driver licence
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused approach
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and the ability to learn enterprise systems
  • Enthusiasm, self-motivation and the ability to work independently, prioritise and meet deadlines, including occasionally outside core hours
