About the role


We are currently seeking a Gardener’s Assistant for our 'Highlands' village located in Highland Park, East Auckland. This village has a great resident community and as part of the gardening team you will help maintain and develop the luscious botanical gardens set over 12 acres for our residents and visitors to enjoy! With over 1000 roses, ponds and a bird aviary, this role will offer the successful candidate variety and challenge.


The role is working Monday to Friday -7.30am to 4pm = 40 hrs week.


As an experienced gardener, some of the responsibilities you will oversee include:


  • Establishing new planting as required to maintain standard of gardens (plants, shrubs, trees etc.)
  • Utilizing the garden maintenance feedback and work with the Head Gardener to maintain communication with the village team and residents around planned works.
  • Actioning planned maintenance programs
  • Maintenance of gardening equipment
  • Undertake landscaping and grounds work.


About you


This is a physical role where you are part of a passionate team keeping our village gardens flourishing and community areas vibrant.  You'll be confident in your gardening abilities and able to communicate with a range of people.


  • Proven experience as a Gardener with a passion for gardening and ground maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge of gardening and landscaping methods
  • Hold and maintain a clean and valid New Zealand driver's license.
  • You'll be fit as you'll undertake physical work and need to operate garden machinery.
  • Have a ‘Can do and will do’ attitude who can work well in a team
  • Ability to plan and communicate with a range of stakeholders including the Village Management and residents
