Job Description

ECE Kaiako – Mission Bay Kindergarten (Full-time)

Start date: Term 1, 15 January 2027

Bring your creativity, curiosity and passion for early childhood education to our welcoming Mission Bay Kindergarten whānau.

Part of Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA), we are seeking a qualified ECE kaiako to join our supportive, collaborative and fun teaching team.

Our kindergarten

Inspired by Reggio Emilia, we view the environment as the third kaiako. Our calm, thoughtfully resourced spaces include cosy reading areas and a rich art atelier, encouraging tamariki to express themselves, explore ideas and learn through open-ended play.

Outdoors, tamariki build confidence through discovery, movement and shared adventures. As part of the Enviroschools programme, we nurture a connection with Papatūānuku through gardening and everyday sustainable practices.

Whanaungatanga is central to our kindergarten. We value strong partnerships with whānau, celebrate our diverse community and support tamariki through their transition to school.

What we offer

  • A welcoming team that values your ideas and contribution.
  • Non-contact time for planning and six weeks’ annual leave.
  • Professional learning opportunities to support your development.
  • A vibrant learning community guided by Te Whāriki.

What you will bring

  • A recognised ECE teaching qualification, current practising certificate and current first aid certificate.
  • A sound understanding of Te Whāriki and intentional, play-based teaching.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, embedding te reo Māori and tikanga Māori in everyday practice.
  • Curiosity about tamariki thinking, with the ability to listen, ask open-ended questions and explore alongside tamariki.
  • Warm, respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau and colleagues.
  • An inclusive approach that values each tamaiti’s identity, language, culture and strengths.
  • Enthusiasm for sustainability and thoughtful use of technology to support teaching and learning.
