Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter based in Wellington to support the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of high voltage substation and transmission equipment. This is a hands-on role offering variety, technical challenges, and opportunities to develop your career within the electricity industry.

About the role


As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be responsible for:


  • Installing, assembling and maintaining mechanical plant and equipment
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on substation assets
  • Reading technical drawings and working to specifications
  • Completing inspections, maintenance and upgrade work
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
  • Participating in project work and occasional standby duties


About you


  • Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years' post-apprenticeship mechanical fitting experience
  • Strong welding, fabrication and maintenance skills
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring tools
  • A commitment to health, safety and quality outcomes
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Physical fitness and a willingness to work at heights when required
