Aluminium Fabricator Jobs
Aluminium fabricators in New Zealand work across residential, commercial, and industrial projects — from custom doors and windows to large-scale structural frameworks. Demand spans local joinery workshops, construction firms, and specialist manufacturers serving industries like architecture, glazing, and engineering. These roles often offer secure, full-time work with opportunities to travel or relocate across regions as projects require.
Day-to-day work
Fabricators cut, assemble, and weld aluminium components to precise specifications. They read and interpret technical drawings, use saws, punches, TIG welders, and CNC machinery, and ensure every finished product meets quality and safety standards. The job often involves glazing, sealing, and on-site installation, as well as maintaining tools, machinery, and a clean workspace. Collaboration with project managers and installers is also common to keep production and installation on track.
Career progression
Careers as aluminium fabricators can lead to supervisory or team leader roles, estimator or project management positions, or specialisation in architectural joinery and custom fabrication. Experienced tradespeople may move into site installation management or start their own joinery or fabrication businesses.
Skills employers look for
Employers seek fabricators with strong technical ability, precise measurement and drawing interpretation skills, and proven experience in TIG welding and fabrication. Attention to detail, reliability, and a positive attitude are essential. Being physically fit, safety-conscious, and confident working both independently and in a team will set applicants apart.
