Are you an experienced Lifeguard ready to take the next step in your career into a senior role? Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (WRAC) are now on the lookout for two experienced Lifeguards to join the team, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and satisfaction of our valued customers and ensuring their experience is truly exceptional.  These are permanent full-time roles that work across a 120 hour 3-week rotating roster (an average of 40 hours per week).


WRAC is a large, multi-purpose aquatic centre that includes a 50m indoor pool, diving pool, toddlers' pool and spray water-play area, programmes pool, hydrotherapy pool, gym, spas and saunas. The pool also hosts high-performance training, regional swim meets, national and international events and a wide range of community programmes. You can watch a virtual tour of this facility here .

As a Senior member of our facility, you will lead and demonstrate pool supervision and lifeguarding according to polices, procedures, and standards. You will ensure that a safe and enjoyable environment is maintained and confidently respond to any issues that arise throughout the shift.


We’re looking for someone who is responsible, reliable, and motivated so if that sounds like you, we want to hear from you!


As this is a Senior Lifeguard role, you must hold a current NZ Lifeguard qualification with at least 12 months experience.


It would also be advantageous if you had qualifications and experience in:

  • Level three Aquatics in Action
  • Introduction to Pool Operations
  • New Zealand Certificate in Water Treatment – level 4
  • Demonstrated plant room knowledge and experience
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of an aquatic facility or CELO (New Zealand Certificate in Exercise and Leisure Operations)


The starting salary for this role is $65,283 per annum. Please note, successful applicants will need to be fully available over the 2026/2027 summer season.

Pre-employment Checks

All employees must be prepared to obtain and maintain a Police Vetting Check, the results of which will be held on your employee file if employed.

Please note this role is safety sensitive and will require you to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol, and health testing, the results of which will be held on your employee file if successful.

The Council uses the AS/NZ drug standard to determine the cut off levels for drug testing.  Some prescription drugs may be included within this standard.
