Job Description

Position Title: Security Officer - DDS

Department: Document Destruction Service

Function: Operations

Reports To: DDS Operations Controller

Mainly Liaises With Internal Teams: Management and Operations


Job Purpose


The purpose of the shredder role is to efficiently process and prepare waste materials, maintain a safe and clean work environment, ensure proper handling and storage of bins, and report any unusual or faulty materials to supervisors for appropriate action.


Key Responsibilities


  • Process bins promptly to maintain the company's 24-hour bin exchange service standard.
  • Safely store bulk materials until destruction is completed.
  • Maintain a professional presentation of the operational work area, uniform, and appearance in line with the company’s Dress Code and Guidelines.
  • Accurately record daily bin processing details, including quantities and times, on Daily Job Sheets for administrative purposes.
  • Conduct yourself professionally at all times, ensuring courteous interactions with colleagues and clients.
  • Keep all equipment in a safe and fully operational condition.
  • Safely stack processed paper bales in designated areas to prevent hazards.
  • Notify the Manager within one day if any objectives cannot be achieved or if external factors are impacting performance or operational goals.
  • Promptly raise incident and performance failure reports as required by the Company Guidelines and House Rules.
  • Identify and understand the expectations of internal customers, ensuring performance consistently meets or exceeds agreed-upon standards.
  • Undertake other duties as required to support business objectives.

  • Participate in Health & Safety trainings to ensure a thorough understanding of company policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Promptly report and document any accidents, hazards, or near-miss incidents, ensuring all records are accurate and submitted to the Safety & Quality Assurance Officer.
  • Regularly review workplace conditions and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation and company policies to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with identifying and mitigating risks by participating in safety audits and inspections as required.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to workplace safety by consistently following guidelines and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience


  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in operating shredding or similar machinery, waste management, or recycling industries, or a combination of relevant experience and on-the-job training.
  • A NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification is beneficial, but equivalent experience may substitute for formal qualifications as per ANZSCO Skill Level 4 requirements.
  • Technical proficiency in machine operation, maintenance, and adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Understanding of compliance regulations and workplace safety standards related to shredding and waste processing.
  • Aligns with ANZSCO Code 711999: Machine Operators not elsewhere classified, reflecting specialized equipment operation expertise.
