About the Role

Unite Recruit is currently looking for reliable and hardworking Hammerhands to join construction and civil construction projects across the Wellington region.


We have opportunities for candidates with previous hammerhand, carpentry, construction labouring or general construction experience. If you are practical, motivated and confident using hand and power tools, we want to hear from you.


This is a great opportunity to secure ongoing construction work with reputable contractors and work alongside experienced tradespeople.


What You'll Be Doing

Depending on your experience and the project, your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting carpenters, builders and tradespeople on site
  • General construction labouring and site support
  • Measuring, cutting and preparing materials
  • Using hand tools and power tools safely
  • Assisting with framing, timber work, formwork and other construction tasks
  • Loading, unloading and moving materials around site
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area
  • Following instructions, plans and site procedures
  • Assisting with concrete, demolition and general site preparation when required
  • Working as part of a team to complete projects safely and efficiently
  • What You'll Receive $25–$32 per hour, depending on your experience and skills
  • Ongoing work with established construction companies

What We Need

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Previous experience as a Hammerhand, Carpenter's Assistant, Construction Labourer or similar
  • Good knowledge of construction sites and safe work practices
  • Confidence using hand and power tools
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual work
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliability and good attendance
  • The ability to follow instructions and work well within a team
  • A commitment to health and safety

Desirable but not essential:

  • Carpentry or construction experience
  • Relevant trade qualifications or training
  • Site Safe certification
  • Full or restricted NZ driver's licence
  • Experience with formwork, framing or concrete
  • Experience working on civil or commercial construction projects
