Hunting & Fishing Gisborne is looking for an experienced Senior Retailer to join one of the top-performing stores in the Hunting & Fishing group.


This role suits someone confident in retail leadership who also enjoys getting outdoors - hunting, fishing, or exploring - and wants to combine their passion with a long-term retail career.


If administration is also interesting to you - there is the chance for part of this role to have administrative and finance tasks included.


About the Role


Working alongside the Store Manager, you'll support daily operations while leading the team on the shop floor.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Supporting store operations and team leadership
  • Delivering outstanding customer service
  • Managing stock performance (stock turns, rotation, aged inventory & seasonal cycles)
  • Maintaining strong merchandising and store presentation
  • Identifying opportunities to improve floor layout and sales performance
  • Assisting with staff coaching and development


Skills & Experience:


  • Previous retail experience in a senior role
  • Experience managing or leading staff ensuring workflow is optimised by the team
  • Strong understanding of retail sales cycles and merchandising
  • Customer-focused with confident communication skills
  • Passion for the outdoors
  • Firearms Licence and hunting or fishing knowledge (beneficial).

We're outdoor sports specialists focused on providing the best advice, products, and service to help customers get more out of their time outdoors. Our team of 10-12 staff are passionate users of the gear we sell, with a supportive culture that includes regular team socials and the occasional Saturday BBQ lunch.


This is a full time opportunity working 5 days per week; Mon-Thurs: 8:30am - 5:30pm, Fri: 8:00am - 5:30pm, and Sat: 8:30am - 2:30pm (4:00pm during December). You'll have one weekday + Sundays off. We're also interested in hearing from those who are looking for part-time hours.
