About the Role


Acting as the operational lead for the Business Development function, the role coordinates the day-to-day delivery of business development activities, including business case development, market analysis, service reviews, strategic projects, stakeholder engagement and process improvement initiatives.


The role provides leadership and support to the Business Development team, works closely with operational leaders across Barnardos, and acts on behalf of the National Manager Business Development as delegated. Through strong operational management and relationship leadership, the position contributes to the sustainability, growth and effectiveness of services for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau.


This permanent, fulltime position is 40 hours per week and is based in Wellington.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the National Manager Business Development to deliver the Business Development work programme and strategic priorities.
  • Facilitate the collection and analysis of relevant quantitative and qualitative information to support business planning and decision making.
  • Identify and explore business development opportunities that align with organisational priorities.
  • Support the development of new services, partnerships and funding opportunities, working collaboratively with operational leaders to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Contribute to budget and forecasting processes.
  • Develop and maintain high trust relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support engagement with government agencies, iwi, Māori providers, community organisations and other sector partners.


Skills and Experience:


  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (BSC/BA in Business Administration or Business Management preferred)
  • Previous proven experience (3+ years) in a leadership role within Business/ Management and/or Business Development
  • Excellent business acumen with proven financial understanding and strong data analysis skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication, organisation and contract negotiation skills
  • The ability to build strong professional relationships internally and externally
  • Current unrestricted NZ drivers' licence
