Make a difference in education across Aotearoa New Zealand


We are partnering with the Ministry of Education to recruit Assessment Markers for the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), an internationally recognised assessment that measures reading literacy achievement among Year 5 students.


This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to contribute to an important educational research project by scoring and coding student responses using standardized international rubrics.


About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga


Following the completion of the PIRLS assessments, students' written responses must be reviewed and assigned specific codes according to strict marking criteria. As an Assessment Marker, you will play an important role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the assessment data.


Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure all coding is completed consistently and in line with project requirements.


What's on Offer?


  • Wellington CBD location
  • Temporary assignment
  • 6-7 hours per day, Monday to Friday
  • Working hours between 8:30am and 5:00pm
  • Expected to be commence 30 November through to approximately 24 December 2026
  • Competitive hourly rate: $38 per hour
  • Opportunity to contribute to a project that helps shape educational outcomes in New Zealand and internationally


Key Responsibilities


  • Review and code student assessment responses using established marking criteria
  • Apply coding rules accurately and consistently
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail while processing large volumes of work
  • Seek clarification when required
  • Ensure confidentiality of all assessment materials and participant information
  • Follow project procedures and quality assurance processes

We are seeking individuals who are meticulous, detail-oriented, and committed to producing accurate, high-quality work. You will thrive in a collaborative team environment and appreciate the importance of applying assessment criteria consistently, objectively, and with attention to detail.


You will ideally have:


  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • The ability to follow instructions and procedures precisely
  • Confidence working collaboratively and asking questions when needed
  • Strong computer literacy and comfortable working on a computer throughout the day
  • Excellent written English skills and familiarity with New Zealand language and idiom
  • A trustworthy and dependable work ethic

Availability for the entire duration of the assignment
