Are you a highly experienced Fitter & Turner looking for a role where your skills really matter?


Taylor Engineering is looking for an experienced, trade-qualified Fitter & Turner with 10+ years' experience to join our Invercargill workshop.


This is a key technical role with a strong focus on our specialist driveshaft machining and balancing business. We're looking for someone with a strong mechanical and machining background who can diagnose problems, find practical solutions and take ownership of jobs from start to finish.


About the Role


This isn't just a standard fitting and turning position. You'll be working on specialist driveshaft repairs, machining and balancing, as well as mechanical repairs across a range of industrial, agricultural and transport applications.


You'll use your experience to assess jobs, diagnose faults, machine and repair components, and deliver work to a high standard. You'll also have the opportunity to help develop and grow the driveshaft and machining side of the business.


This role would suit someone who enjoys problem-solving, precision machining and mechanical work, and who takes pride in getting a job done properly.


About you


We're looking for someone who understands that good engineering is about more than simply fixing a problem. You'll consider the most practical and cost-effective solution for the customer, manage your time well, identify potential issues early and understand the importance of productivity and profitability.


You'll also be comfortable talking with customers, understanding their requirements and explaining repair options in a straightforward way.


We're looking for someone who has:


  • 10+ years' experience as a qualified Fitter & Turner
  • Strong mechanical fitting, repair and diagnostic skills
  • Solid experience with manual machining and precision work
  • A strong understanding of shafts, bearings, couplings, splines and rotating equipment
  • The ability to diagnose driveline, vibration and alignment issues
  • Experience with driveshafts and balancing equipment is highly desirable
  • Welding and fabrication skills would be a real advantage
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of jobs
  • Good attention to detail and a strong focus on quality and safety
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to engineering work
