Job Description

BestStart Ferry Road is seeking a passionate and dedicated Centre Manager to join our energetic and close-knit team on a fixed term contract to cover a parental leave from mid-November 2026 to early January 2028.


Located in the heart of Christchurch's eastern suburbs, our purpose-built centre is home to two over-two rooms and a nursery licensed for 16 children. Situated opposite Te Waka Unu School, we are a vibrant, multicultural centre with a strong sense of community, belonging, and long-standing relationships with our families.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader or aspiring Centre Manager ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.


As a Centre Manager, you will:


  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the centre.
  • Build strong relationships with children, whānau, and the wider community.
  • Support and develop teachers through coaching and mentoring.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Drive curriculum quality and positive outcomes for children.


We're looking for someone who:


  • Holds a recognised ECE qualification and current practising certificate.
  • Has leadership experience within an early childhood setting.
  • Leads with positivity, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Is passionate about coaching and growing others.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Has a strong commitment to Te Whāriki and quality teaching practice.

Role Requirements


  • BEd/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE) and current Teacher Certification.
  • Strong understanding of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and quality practice.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and inspire others.
