Sanford is looking for an experienced Factory Electrician to join our Engineering Maintenance team based in Havelock, Marlborough.

If you’re a hands on electrician who enjoys fault finding, solving problems and keeping machinery running, this is an opportunity to put those skills to work in the heart of a busy seafood processing operation.


About the role

Our Havelock mussel processing factory is a fast-paced production environment, and keeping our plant and machinery running safely, reliably and efficiently is critical to what we do.


As a Factory Electrician, you’ll work closely with our engineering and production teams, responding to breakdowns, carrying out preventative maintenance and finding practical solutions to keep production moving. There’s a strong focus on preventative maintenance, but when something does go wrong, you’ll need to be comfortable getting hands-on, fault finding and getting equipment back up and running.


What you’ll be doing

You’ll work across a range of electrical equipment and production machinery, giving you plenty of opportunity to use your existing skills while building your knowledge of our plant and production environment.


You’ll be responsible for:

  • Maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting electrical equipment and plant.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance, testing and inspections.
  • Diagnosing electrical faults and responding to breakdowns.
  • Working across motors, drives, PLCs, controls and instrumentation.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Installing, testing and commissioning electrical equipment and modifications.
  • Supporting shutdowns, projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Keeping accurate maintenance records and identifying recurring issues.
  • Working closely with Production, Quality and Engineering teams.
  • Contributing to improvements in equipment reliability, safety and performance.
  • Working around the production plan and communicating effectively with the wider team.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who is practical, reliable and comfortable getting stuck in within a busy factory environment.


Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • A recognised Electrical trade qualification.
  • Current New Zealand Electrical Practising Licence.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in factory or industrial electrical maintenance, ideally within manufacturing, food or beverage.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with motors, drives, PLCs, controls and instrumentation.
  • Experience working with automated production equipment.
  • A strong focus on safety and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout and safe work practices.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work Saturdays, overtime or support other shifts when required.
