Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) is seeking a passionate, registered ECE Kaiako to join the dedicated team at Mayfield Kindergarten.


About us


Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) has supported tamariki and whānau across Tāmaki Makaurau since 1908. Today, our organisation includes 112 kindergartens and KiNZ centres and a dedicated Support Services team.


Our work is grounded in Te Whāriki, guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and centred on the wellbeing and learning of tamariki and their whānau. Across our Auckland-wide network, we provide high-quality, inclusive early childhood education that gives tamariki the best possible start.


About Mayfield Kindergarten

Mayfield Kindergarten offers a warm and stimulating environment where the environment is recognised as the third teacher. Our play-based, emergent curriculum supports tamariki to develop autonomy and creativity through rich learning experiences and open-ended resources.


As a proud Enviroschool, we support tamariki and whānau to become kaitiaki of Papatūānuku and develop sustainable practices through a Māori lens. Manaakitanga and whanaungatanga are at the heart of our practice, guided by our care code:

About the role


As an ECE Kaiako at Mayfield Kindergarten, you will:


  • Work collaboratively within a supportive and professional teaching team
  • Deliver a high-quality, play-based curriculum grounded in Te Whāriki
  • Build strong relationships with tamariki, whānau and the local community
  • Contribute to a bicultural learning environment that values identity, culture and belonging
  • Use digital tools confidently to extend learning and support teaching practice
  • Help shape a shared vision for the kindergarten’s future while respecting its history and established practice


About you


We are looking for a Kaiako who:


  • Is a registered ECE teacher with a current practising certificate
  • Is a positive team member who is enthusiastic, warm and fun-loving
  • Has a strong understanding of play-based learning
  • Builds genuine and respectful relationships
  • Actively upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi and contributes confidently to bicultural practice
  • Has strong capability in planning, assessment and documentation
  • Uses digital technology confidently as a teaching and learning tool
  • Values inclusion and celebrates the diversity of tamariki, whānau and the wider community
  • Creates engaging and stimulating learning experiences
  • Is passionate about nature and sustainability and weaves these naturally into practice
