About the role

Just an hour away from Christchurch, our newly refurbished Edit Hanmer Springs, is on the hunt for a Maintenance Assistant to look after day-to-day maintenance issues and proactively maintain the upkeep of the property.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is a full-time role, 30-40 hours per week.


Key responsibilities

  • Handle routine maintenance issues of the hotel
  • Maintain the building, plant, equipment, fixtures, and fittings
  • Maintaining the hotel pool
  • Gardening and grounds cleaning and maintenance
  • Communicate with hotel departments regarding maintenance needs and action accordingly
  • Coordinate external contractors when required
  • Be responsible for reporting hazards, incidents, and ensuring your actions do not put others at risk.
  • Assist with other duties as directed by management
  • Undertake repairs when necessary, including outside of your regular hours due to the 24/7 nature of the hotel industry.


Requirements for this role include

  • Minimum 1 year of maintenance/handyman experience, preferably in a hotel or nursing home environment
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster across the week, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Mechanically sound
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety in relation to your role
  • Self-motivation and discipline, someone with passion for getting the job done to a high quality
  • The ability to follow direction, work as part of a team as well as on your own.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Well-groomed, personable and friendly
  • Physically fit due to the nature of the role
  • Reliable and honest personality
  • NZ Citizen, Resident, or holder of a valid NZ work permit
